John and Janet go on Vacation
A photograph that I had been forming in my mind was a late afternoon landscape of Lake Louise, green and clear at sunset with a nice reflection on the surface. Not in April. Two weeks before we arrived, ice skating was still permitted on the lake. This is the mostly-frozen, partly-thawed time of year for Louise.

We stayed at the Chateau for five days, and used this as a base for our explorations. From here, we took day trips to the Columbia Glacier and to Jasper.

It was a great adventure to explore the hotel itself. Built in 1890 in the tradition of the old grand hotels, this place just reeks of history. I kept thinking of Jack Nicholson and the Overlook Hotel when I walked the corridors.

Janet figured out how, by using a discount card, to book us into a suite in the hotel. It was a great adventure, and we both enjoyed being pampered like this.
